Teatro Mundi est constitué de plans fixes filmés dans plusieurs villes et pays (Athènes, Gênes, Belle-Ile-en-mer, Arles, New York, Marrakech, Tokyo, Venise, Timimoun Algérie, désert blanc égyptien) qui présentent des réalités multiples (villes, mers, déserts).

Le film commence par une vue du théâtre de Dionysos, sur le site de l’Acropole à Athènes. Ce lieu est considéré comme le premier théâtre du monde, berceau de la tragédie. A partir de ce plan, par superposition, vont apparaître les différentes réalités géographiques des lieux traversés. Le trafic italien surgira du théâtre antique, l’océan atlantique engloutira la ville de Gênes ou la terre rouge marocaine balaiera la mégapole New-Yorkaise, etc. Autant d’associations pour trouver une perspective contemporaine au concept antique du Theatrum mundi (théâtre du monde), sans doute toujours opérant aujourd’hui.

Cette notion développée par de nombreux auteurs baroques au 15ème et 16ème siècle (Shakespeare, Calderon, Corneille ou Goldoni) dépeint le monde comme un théâtre dans lequel les êtres jouent tous un rôle malgré eux. Ils sont réduits à des marionnettes dont les ficelles sont tirées par un « créateur» à la double figure d’un « Dieu » et d’un metteur en scène. Aujourd’hui, dans notre monde globalisé, le theatrum mundi antique trouve une nouvelle résonance. La figure traditionnelle du démiurge a été remplacée par un metteur en scène habité par l’économie et une planète nature en colère.

Le film Teatro Mundi propose une relecture de ce concept et invite à réconcilier ces deux dimensions, pour écrire de nouveaux rôles, justes et modérés pour les personnages de notre scène monde.

Teatro Mundi is made up of still shots filmed in several cities and countries (Athens, Genova, Belle-Ile-en-mer, Arles, New York, Marrakech, Tokyo, Venice, Timimoun Algeria, Egyptian white desert) which present multiple realities (cities, seas, deserts).

The film begins with a view of the theater of Dionysus, on the site of the Acropolis in Athens. This place is considered to be the first theater in the world, where the tragedy is born. From this image, by superposition, will appear the different geographical realities of the places crossed. The Italian traffic will emerge from the antic theater, the Atlantic Ocean will engulf the city of Genova or the red Moroccan earth will sweep the New York megalopolis, etc. So many associations to find a contemporary perspective to the ancient concept of the Theatrum mundi (theater of the world), probably still operating today.

This notion developed by many baroque authors in the 15th and 16th centuries (Shakespeare, Calderon, Corneille or Goldoni) described the world as a theater in which all human beings play a role in spite of themselves. They are reduced to puppets whose strings are pulled by a "creator" with the double figure of a "God" and a director. Today, in our globalized world, the ancient theatrum mundi finds a new resonance. The traditional figure of the demiurge has been replaced by a director inhabited by the economy and an angry planet nature.

The film Teatro Mundi proposes a rereading of this concept and invites to reconcile these two dimensions, to write new roles, fair and moderate for the characters of our world stage.
